Design
Interior Design is one of the fastest growing professions.
Interior designers engage both public and private spaces.
Interior Design is about the right color, the correct
proportions combined with well-chosen and placed elements. It
is not about strictly following a defined ‘look’ or style.
Interior design is a profession with great possibilities for
advancement. You may begin as a junior designer or assistant
and soon become a senior designer, project manager, or partner
in a firm.
Interior design is an integrated process applicable to both
residential and commercial environments. It includes the design
and planning of space for commercial, industrial, and
residential areas.
Interior Design is a profession and much
more: designers make places for people, contribute to their
wellbeing, and support their values, memories and dreams. It
is generally divided into two categories, residential and
contract or commercial. Today, interior design is becoming
increasingly specialized as buildings and materials get more
complex technologically and regulations and standards more
demanding.
There is great scope for the trained interior
designer. Interior Design is an evolving discipline that
celebrates multiplicity in design approaches, responding
to social practices and evoking spatial experiences that
improve the way we live, work and play.
For over 30 years the Interior Design Course at UTS has been
regarded highly by the profession and has gained an outstanding
reputation internationally and within Australia. Interior
design is not to be confused with interior decoration which is
focused on choosing color palettes with complementary
furniture, flooring, window coverings, artwork, and lighting.
Today, interior designers must be attuned to architectural
detailing including: floor plans, home renovations, and
construction codes.
Interior design is a dynamic process, a continuous
interaction between space and user. The need for an 'emotional
culture' in our living environment is rising. Interior design
is a technical art. Interior design is a practical art.
Interior design is responsible for the creative, architectural,
technical, economic, ecological and social planning/design of
interior spaces and for the associated structural changes to
buildings. This typically includes activities to determine the
heating requirements, to solve insulation problems, to decide
on suitable facility and domestic installations and lighting
options.
